Upper Clyde River
The Upper Clyde River, NS, community was built around the lumber camps of the mid-1800s. Like so many of the communities in southern Nova Scotia, timber was cut and milled or transported down the Clyde River to be milled and shipped out of Negro Harbour to other points in Canada and the US.
The forestry industry gave way to farming in the early part of the 20th century, which is the leading economic activity in our community. However, because of Upper Clyde River’s proximity to several lakes, like Gold Lake, Welshtown Lake, and Rory’s Lake, tourism in the form of hiking, fishing, and hunting provides an additional draw to our community.
