Trenton
North of New Glasgow, Trenton, NS, was established by British Loyalists who resettled in the area in 1786 after the American Revolutionary War. Early economic activity was associated with shipbuilding and the booming coal industry from the East River of Pictou.
Since the 1870s, the major economic base of Trenton has centred around the TrentonWorks factory and its predecessors. The factory closed permanently in 2016, requiring our community to attract new industries like Michelin Tires, Asia Pulp and Paper, and Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering. A major attraction for residents and visitors is the beautiful 560-acre Trenton Steeltown Centennial Park.
