Stewiacke is located near the confluence of Stewiacke and the Shubenacadie Rivers, positioned halfway between the North Pole and the Equator. Our community rose to prominence during the French and Indian War when the British built Fort Ellis to protect New England Planters from Mi'kmaq raids.
Though we’re still a quiet rural community, the discovery of a mastodon skeleton in the late 1990s attracted the attention of the world and led to the development of the Mastodon Ridge Complex, which features tourist amenities as well as displays several of the mastodon's bones.
