South Branch
Named for the South Branch of the Stewiacke River, South Branch, like so many communities in the region, was settled by Scots fleeing the Highland Clearances or New England Planters replacing Acadians after the Acadian expulsion. Both settled the area to farm or cut timber.
South Branch is a large rural community that takes in lakes and tributaries to the South Branch of the Stewiacke River. In addition to farming, hikers, snowshoers, fishermen, and hunters are attracted to our area because of the abundance of nature that surrounds us.
