Sandy Cove
Located on the St. Mary’s Bay side of Digby Neck, Sandy Cove, NS, was among the settlements established by the native Mi'kmaq and later by European settlers. Techniques for fishing mackerel and herring were taught to the new settlers, which they continued to use until well into the 1900s, and fish-drying techniques continue today.
Sandy Cove continues to thrive thanks to being adjacent to Canada’s most lucrative lobster fishing zone, which also features haddock, herring, mackerel, clams, and scallops. In addition, our community was often featured in landscapes painted by the late Maud Lewis.
