Salt Springs
Salt Springs, NS, was settled by Scottish immigrants fleeing the Highland Clearances during the late 18th century and early 19th century on property officially referred to as the Salt Springs Lot. In addition to extracting salt from the springs, a fulling mill for cloth and later a woollen mill were the foundations of early economic activity in the settlement.
Today, most Salt Springs residents commute to work in New Glasgow or Truro. Outdoor recreational activities abound in the area due to the proximity of Salt Springs Provincial Park, Six Mile Brook Trail, Watervale Area Recreation Club, Bezansons Falls, and Gully Lake Wilderness Area.
