Round Hill
Known as Rosette by the Acadians who settled the area, Round Hill, NS, is a historic community on the Annapolis River halfway between the Valley market towns of Bridgetown and Annapolis Royal. Though replaced by Protestant English and Scottish families in the late 1750s, the Acadian legacy remains in the form of dykes, orchards, and the remnants of their mills and other structures.
The community’s name comes from the Round Hill Station on the Annapolis County Railway, which is now a snowshoeing, hiking, and biking trail extending from Kingston to the mouth of the Bear River. Nature lovers will feel very much at home thanks to the abundance of wildlife and birdlife – it is directly on the migratory route of the monarch butterfly, and the Annapolis River has striped bass, sturgeon, and sea trout, while efforts are being made to restore its salmon population.
