Port Williams, NS
Once part of the Acadian settlement of Rivière-aux-Canards who created dykes along the river through the early 1600s, the agricultural production around Port Williams was very productive even after New England Planters took over in 1760. Fort Hughes, also known as Planter’s Barracks, on Starr’s Point, operated to protect against raids by American privateers during the American Revolution.
Transformed from an important regional shipping point for lumber, apples, lumber, and potatoes, Port Williams is much quieter, allowing residents to breathe in the fresh air that arrive from the mouth of the Cornwallis River.
