To the Mi'kmaq, Paradise, NS was known as Nesogwaakade (Place of Eel Weirs) before French settlement in the early 17th century, when explorers labelled the area as Paradis Terrestre on their maps. The French were primarily interested in the presence of timber suitable for shipbuilding, which led to enterprises like the building of small ships, flour milling, tanning, and beaver hat production.
The primary economic activities of Paradise have traditionally focused on forestry, fishing, hunting, farming, and fruit production, but today’s Paradise is primarily residential, with some small tourism-related and service businesses.
