New Minas, NS
Sandwiched between Kentville and Wolfville, New Minas was the largest of the settlements known as Les Mines or Minas after the French copper mine exploration on Cape d'Or at the entrance to the Minas Basin in the 1600s. By connecting dykes to Oak Island, they turned tidal marshland into productive farmland, which led to establishing a mill, chapel, and burial ground at Oak Island until they were expelled and replaced by New England Planters in the 1760s.
Today, New Minas is a thriving commercial center, enjoying the advantages of our location between larger residential communities. Ken Wo Golf Club, the Cornwallis River and nearby White Rock Lek and Lumsden Pond provide residents and visitors alike with plenty of recreational opportunities away from urban life.
