Timber was the primary reason for the establishment of communities in southern Nova Scotia like Middle Ohio, NS. In the mid-1800s, lumber camps and sawmills played a leading role in the establishment of our community.
On the heels of the lumber industry, Middle Ohio is now a quiet rural community mostly focused on farming. However, McKay Lake is a major geographic feature in our community that draws in tourism in the form of hiking, kayaking, fishing, and hunting.
