Kingston, NS
The small community serving the farms in the area during the early 1800s was called Bloomfield, but the establishment of a railroad station on the Halifax-Yarmouth main line of the Dominion Atlantic Railway was called "Kingston Station" in 1868. After the arrival of the railway, Kingston Station developed into a local service and light manufacturing centre.
Kingston remains as a major service centre for the apple growing industry in the area of western Kings County, while also providing commercial, residential, and recreational support services for the Canadian Forces Base at Greenwood. For the past 50 years, the Kingston-Greenwood community has roasted an entire steer while enjoying a parade and a small fair every year, on the second Saturday in July.
