Jordan Falls
Because of its location near the delta of the Jordan River, Jordan Falls, NS, was important to the Indigenous people of the area as well as the Acadians, and then Puritan settlers who arrived in the area in the 1750s and 1760s. Though known for its hunting and fishing, latecomers to the land were most interested in farming in the temperate climate.
Today, wood milling, micro-farming, hunting, and fishing continue to draw people to Jordan Falls in search of a quieter lifestyle. Several trailheads into the tidal marshlands draw hikers to Jordan Falls, while nearby Shelburne provides most of the commercial and lodging facilities.
