Greenwood
Before 1942, Greenwood, NS, was little more than a hamlet near the Kingston Station of the Dominion Atlantic Railway. When the British RAF built an aerodrome on nearby farmland to provide a facility for training aircrew under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan, Greenwood was transformed forever.
Known as CFB Greenwood since 1968, it became one of Canada’s most important air force bases when aircraft and personnel from air bases all over eastern Canada were consolidated into Greenwood’s command. Most of Greenwood’s housing, commercial enterprises, and recreation cater to military families deployed at the air base.
