Fraxville
A disbanding group of 172 soldiers of the Nova Scotia Fencibles were given rations, tools, and seeds to start farmsteads in the area around New Ross and Fraxville, NS. Throughout the 19th century, farming, logging, and barrel-making were primary industries, enhanced by some mining by the century’s end.
Forestry and farming continue to be the primary economic activities in the area surrounding Fraxville in the 21st century. However, some tourism in the form of hiking, hunting, and fishing is common thanks to nearby Gulley Lake, Hunts Lake, and Lake Ramsay.
