Elmsdale, NS
Elmsdale came into being thanks to the construction of the Shubenacadie Canal and the Nova Scotia Railway, which drew workers on these projects and their families to the confluence of the Nine Mile River and the Shubenacadie River. The abundance of elm trees in the area was the motivation for the town’s name, which was mostly involved in lumber and farming in its early days.
While Elmsdale remains a rural community to this day, it is a significant commercial center in the region and attracts plenty of visitors interested in hunting, fishing, camping, and watersports associated with nearby Shubenacadie Grand Lake. Access to and from our community is greatly enhanced by the Halifax Stanfield International Airport located about 15 km south of town.
